About the event

Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia (WM) is a rare, slow-growing, incurable subtype of non-Hodgkin Lymphoma that affects B- lymphocytes (white blood cells). When a person has WM, there is a mutation to their B-cells, and these cancer cells make large amounts of an antibody, called IgM. Because of IgM’s bulky structure, the blood can become very thick, and cannot flow easily through the body. This can lead to many of the symptoms associated with WM, including excess bleeding, vision problems, cardiovascular complications, and nervous system issues.
