Dr. Anne Marie Vale received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education from Rhode Island College and her doctorate in leadership from Regent University. Anne Marie, who served as an itinerant music specialist and general educator in the North Providence Schools for 29 years, moved to Sarasota, Florida upon retirement. She plays a variety of musical styles, ranging from Oldies (popular music from the 40s and 50s) to Motown, Soul, R & B, Ballads, and Classic Rock (from the 60s, 70s, and 80s), gradually getting to know the clients and doing her best to accommodate everyone’s diverse musical interests and tastes.
Anne Marie completed a Master of Science degree in psychology from Divine Mercy University in May of 2019. Her Capstone project focused on the therapeutic use of music and reminiscence therapy as a means of meeting the socio-emotional needs of the elderly, as well as anyone coping with dementia. Hailing from Rhode Island, Morgan Johnston is an indie-folk singer-songwriter and Board Certified Music Therapist with a master's degree in mental health counseling from Lesley University. As a performer, she is always stomping, strumming, speaking, and singing her way to empowering both herself and her listeners. Her lyrics are inspired by the natural landscape of places as much as by the emotional landscape of human experiences. While most often found singing with her guitar, Morgan is known to experiment with different stringed instruments and tunings as well as vocal arrangements on loop pedal. In her music therapy work, she is constantly reminded of the healing power of the music she aims to share.
As a music therapist, she has gotten to work with individuals and groups of all ages on a range of physical and emotional goals in substance abuse centers, schools for adults and children with developmental disabilities, memory care units for older adults, and LGBTQ+ and college partial hospital programs. Morgan embodies a balance of warmth and depth in her relationships with those she works with and takes a humanistic approach to therapy by seeing it as a collaborative process. She enjoys integrating other expressive arts therapies like poetry, movement, and art in addition to music to support those she works with in finding their personal emotional languages and moving towards their personal definition of wellness.
Ultimately, Morgan holds dear the statement by Michelangelo that the sculpture already exists within the block of stone and the sculptor merely needs to chip away at it— Let’s chip away together at the challenges you are facing to reveal the authentic self that already exists within you!
